A couple of these over every town should make it interesting for pilots. Reminds me of reading about barrage balloons used during WWII.

How big a copper braid does it take to carry 10KW a thousand vertical feet (plus horizontal displacement) continuously and reliably? How much insulation would you need? And how much does all that weigh in fact? Can it even hold its own weight? My guess is that it generates lift, and pulls on its string. So it better be pretty strong, if not light.

I bet it would ice up and crash in a lot of places "on earth". And near a T-storm? Lightning might vaporize its cable and it could float away generating unusable energy and creating aviation havoc forevermore.
