I'm reading House of Leaves

I don't have a review, just started reading it. Ok, I get the freaky typeset and weird stuff, but yeash it's a good book so far, but SOOOO hard to read.

Well, I can't say it'll be high on my list of books to read ("It is insufferably postmodern, maddeningly hip, and utterly in love with itself; and like a Boardwalk funhouse, it's filled with shameless tricks, distorted mirrors, and not a few genuine shocks. Oh yes, Mark Z. Danielewski has produced one hell of an ambitious first novel; and one that succeeds on a surprising number of levels." From from this review, esp since I generally abhor PoMo literature, art and philosophy of any kind, the reference to Ocean City intrigues me. I went there several times as a child and greatly enjoyed playing the nickel slots (gasp! imagine that today!) and fun houses and learning how to eat crabs. OTOH, Hemingway was pretty weird as well. OTOOH, I find him tedious and convoluted.

I'll try, but if I find it awful, it's all Lane's fault.

Off to read a thoroughly mediocre crime novel.

There, I've given away my intellectual level.

It's getting better. Yet more complicated.

It's a novel within a story within a novel. And that really doesn't explain it. As I said complicated
