I threw this under chemophobia because of the reference to 'hundreds of chemicals' used in beauty products schtick. I think this woman is seriously mental (insert obligatory comment about wymmin) and the number of cosmetics she uses/used was nutso, but...

Enjoy

It is a somewhat, actually, flesh-crawling may be the correct term, icky story.

quote:
Every morning for as long as she can remember, Nicky Taylor — like millions of other women — has carried out her 'getting ready' routine.

It starts with shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, includes mouthwash, cleanser and a moisturiser, and ends with an array of age-reversing serums, make-up, hair gel, deodorant, toothpaste and perfume.

...

quote:
But over the past six weeks, Nicky, 42, has cut this daily routine, and all the products associated with it, out of her life altogether. Yes, for 40 days and 40 nights, there has been no showering, no hair washing, no teeth cleaning and no deodorant.

She has ditched her make-up and hair styling products, and allowed herself access to just three outfits (her running kit, a pair of jeans and a T-shirt, and one summer dress).

...

quote:
"Then, one evening earlier this year, I sat down and read the labels of everything I used and worked out I was applying more than 200 different chemicals to my body each day. These are said to be safe, but what is not known is the effect that the 'cocktail' of chemicals is having on our bodies."

She adds: "With the incidence of diseases such as breast cancer on the rise, it's difficult not to wonder if these products could partly be to blame. Health campaigners are particularly worried about a group of chemicals called parabens, which are added to cosmetics to prevent them from degrading."

Well, it will probably reduce her incidence of infectious diseses, since no other human being will get close enough to her to transmit one.

Her teeth will soon be like the stars. They'll come out every night.

She seems blissfully oblivious of the thousands of 'chemicals' that she pours down her throat every time she drinks a cup of coffee. Only 30 have ever been tested on animals and 20 wre fund to be rodent carcinogens

Not to mention that she drinks a 'cocktail' of chemicals every time she has a cocktail.

It's possible the woman is nominally sane. If education is as awful in England as it is here (and there are indications this is becoming so), she may simply be ignorant and devoid of critical thinking skills, which has left her vulnerable to being scared to death by anti-chemical propaganda.

She also shows indications of a cancer phobia, which seems to underlie a lot of fear of modernity in its various manifestations (chemicals, vaccines, fluoridation, electromagnetic fields, indoor molds, ...)

And that in turn reflects a fear of death.

Poor woman. She's going to spoil the years she has by obsessing over whether she is going to have enough years.
