Wiki notes that Herbert Hoover was overwhelmed by The Great Depression. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_ ... _dt_fb_top

I'm no poli-sci type, so I can't analyze this guy's article, but I think he's skewing a little off from the actuality. I'm also really bad at math, so I'll just say I think the article is one of those curved lines that get close to the line you're looking at but never quite touches it.

I will say I thought Trump's campaign reminded me more of Reagan's than any other pol I can think of off-hand. I don't think Trump is Reagan, but I do think he campaigned similarly. I think some of the rhetoric used against him was similar to the rhetoric used against Reagan. I hope he's better than his critics think he will be, including this Slate writer.

You may be looking for the word asymptote (or asymptotic). The article is clearly from a biased publication. The contrast between various ex-presidents is interesting. Someone elsewhere mentioned Millard Fillmore. I am expecting Trump to fail but who knows. A wait and see attitude seems appropriate. This gives me an incentive to stay healthy for a possible second term.

Looked it up - asymptote / asymptotic is the word. :D What I remember of math classes is that I wanted to throw my calculator hard enough to put holes in hard objects and that trains pass each other at some point.

I'm a little worried for us wait-and-seers. People are still out there actively campaigning against Trump. There's been yet another video by Hollywood has-beens and C-listers trying to get Congress not to vet him as president. People are still making a fuss via demonstrations and riots. The Establishment looks like it is trying to undermine his presidency, leaving him with so many problems to fix that he won't be able to implement any of his own agenda. I might be wrong, things might settle down once he's inaugurated. Since they're ignoring the election, I'm beginning to doubt it.
