When he finally gets to "the second great threat from the Left" (the politicization of science) I think everyone had probably already been reading into that from his first point. I think there's little doubt that a lot of the lefty science stuff he's talking about is also very obviously applicable to the political side of things. So much of what he mentions in the first half of the article was shown to be true in the last 2+ weeks after the election of the seemingly unelectable Drumpf. A fair portion of the Left cannot accept that this election is legitimate simply because it doesn't sync with any world-view they can envision. And while I can't say I'm happy with the election result, the ensuing hand-wringing and blame-scattering have been quite amusing.
