At least some of us are on Facebook. Would you join a Debunkers Facebook Group?

Yes. It'd surely be better than the drivel I typically read on FB.

This is timely, since Bill Holt may not be up to continuing to sponsor this site for much longer. I've been talking with him off and on about taking it over, but it might be more practical to simply move the discussion to Facebook. The biggest catch is how to preserve the archives.

Thing is, there's a difference between Debunkers' message board and Facebook. There are categories here, where FB is more linear - subjects wouldn't be separated. Longer posts are more difficult at FB but it's easier to respond and post non-verbal responses there, things like pictures (and silly emoticons.)

What would it entail to maintain this website?

I'll look into archiving, but after just a cursory search, it looks like you can't (usually?) post new content to an archived site. There are ways to preserve various content from the web, like the Wayback Machine. Those are massive 'let's capture the entire web' sites, not an archive of a single site. Am currently looking at a publication from the National Archives about how to archive sites. For an archive, would we need to keep it on a server somewhere? What would that cost, if anything? If it doesn't cost, why not leave it here? Why not have both this site for longer items, as well as the Facebook group? Which leads back to, what would it entail to maintain this site?

I'd be up for a Facebook group, but as Vit said, we'd lose a lot of what we have with a forum if that was our only mechanism to discuss and archive discussions.

The best way to maintain this site is for Bill to hand over the keys to someone else. The problem is that Bill is quite ill, and while I think he's quite willing to do that, he's just not been able.

If you have any religious inclinations, a prayer for Bill would be in order.

 I hope he gets better!

Would it be easier on him to deal through an intermediary who is there with him - wife, kid, best buddy?

It looks like archiving is either online or in the cloud - both of which entails paying someone to keep the archive for the most part - or downloaded to one's personal computer.
