Homemade hovercraft made with drones.

Pretty sure this violates some FAA regulations, though.

Not a hovercraft; not using an air cushion but getting lift from rotors. Thus would seemingly meet the FAA definition of rotary wing aircraft. IIRC it's just barely possible to get a pilot's license in an aircraft you build yourself and fly without having a previous pilot's license but I bet the amount of paperwork and bureaucratic negotiations would be interesting.

I have an acquaintance who actually built his own small aircraft in his garage and got it certified. But he was already an experienced licensed pilot.

I was wondering about that. I suppose with all those props spinning it must create quite the vortex. That dome might keep the air off him.
