This has to be the one of the stupidest ideas to come along for dealing with farmland loss.

Why build it offshore? Wouldn't it be safer to build onshore where you don't have to worry about it sinking, the corrosive effects of the oceans, random storms breaking it in half? It's mobile, so basically the biggest ship ever built, that shouldn't cause any problems, like where to build it. So much wrong with this idea...

I dunno. Some seas are relatively calm most of the time. Seasonal moves to keep out of bad weather aren't unreasonable. I just wonder how valuable the crop needs to be (and the value of nearby farmland for that matter) to make the economics for something like this to work.
