I know it may seem simplistic, but I love the Harry potter stories, so much so that I also regularly read fan fiction stories. All five of us have read at least a few of the books and three of us have read all seven, with a few of us reading them multiple times. I'm not as enamored of the movies but still grew to enjoy them for what they were. So it wasn't a surprise I'd want to see this one.

I wasn't disappointed. The characters were mostly good, if predictable in a few cases. They managed to swing a twist I didn't see coming, but otherwise pretty common escapist fun. The CGI was second to none as evidenced by the big clean-up scene at the end. Eddie Redmayne is a great actor and did a great job portraying his character's caring nature at a few points where necessary.

I won't say it's a must-see even for Harry Potter fans, but it may be the first back-story film in which case it would be worth the effort. The bigger the screen, the better for some scenes.
