My cube-mates might think I'm crazy after laughing so hard at this. But now I'm just sad for the future of science in this country again.

A&W is running their ads in Canada with the "contains no hormones or steroids" line and has been for a few years.

No word of a lie, one of the hipster actors in the ad says, and I quote verbatim: "that's good I don't like hormones in my meat".

Teh stupid, it hurts.

One of our major retailers sells a line of "free from" products. Free from indicates no use of artificial hormones. The products sell for a little more than double the "normal" meat. Chicken is a fine example. Chicken in Canada cannot legally have artificial hormones used in production and the small print on the package actually states this. But the stuff sells like gangbusters.

I can't watch ads any more. They are written by people without even the most basic understanding of science.

They don't need to know any science to be successful. They just have to know what sells products.

Knowing science might actually be a hindrance, if it's combined with a working conscience.

Oh I couldn't agree more but it's tragic just the same. We could actually try and educate people and make the world a better place but nope a buck is more important than telling the truth. I know that's nothing new with respect to advertising but there's just so much snake oil out there and much of it coming from real, reputable businesses.
