From Nature: Crucial ocean-acidification models come up short.
Quote:
The researchers also found mistakes in basic chemistry: some authors simply added acid to a tank and ignored other chemical changes that result from the absorption of CO2, such as increased levels of carbonates. Although the frequency of these chemistry errors has dropped since the 2010 publication of an international ‘best practice’ guide for ocean-acidification experiments (see go.nature.com/sp5kgn), the researchers found no evidence for improvements in the design of tank arrays.

Ouch, but I can't say that I am surprised.

This idea has always struck me as approaching the pinnacle of insanity - we have some pretty weak science to suggest we might, possibly, maybe have an issue with the climate warming (somehow managing to delude oneself that the starting point of measurements that are considered useful might actually be a confirmation bias sort of selection - we start with the low temps of the 1970s cuz the 1930s were inconvenient to fit our meme). So what we're going to do is seriously fark around with the oceans because we think maybe we understand that well enough to maybe, possibly, potentially resolve an issue. All the while never actually considering that if what they did worked in the fashion they imagined, but they had an error in calculation, they could equally as easily plunge the earth headlong into the next ice age. Cuz that would be better.
